TROPEA
Tropea is one of most renowned touristic location of Calabria, according to the online version of the Sunday Times (January 14, 2007), Tropea is the most beautiful of the 20 best beaches in Europe. In addition to its enviable position, has a rich historical center with noble palaces of the '700 and dell''800 perched on a cliff overlooking the beach below, the Church of Santa Maria Island of considerable importance and the Norman cathedral of 1100. Interesting are also the "portals" of buildings that represented the noble families. Also worth a visit the private museum of ancient crafts of Calabria and automatic machines.
The stores sell lots of products typical of Tropea, including the red onion, the nduja to Spilinga, the Poro Pecorino cheese, extra virgin olive oil and wines. Of great importance is also local crafts like pottery artefacts.
PIZZO CALABRO
Pizzo is one of the most picturesque villages of Calabria. It stands on a limestone rock overlooking the sea and still retains the look of a typical seaside village. Among the more important attractions there are the Old Town, full of shops and craft shops, the Church of Piedigrotta, the Aragonese Castle and Piazza della Repubblica. The Church of Piedigrotta is located not far from the historic center, situated on the beach of the coast, was carved into a limestone rock in the end of seventeenth century from Neapolitan castaways to thank God for the life saved. The Church has innumervoli of tufa statues made completely by hand by skilled stonemasons. Il Castello Aragonese owes its historical importance to Joachim Murat, King of Naples, and brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. Here was shot October 13, 1815, after several days of imprisonment and a process done in the main hall of the castle, Murat was later buried in the church of San Giorgio. Today the castle of Pizzo is called the Castello Aragonese of Murat and inside of it there is the provincial museum of Murat. The Republic Square is the heart of Pizzo where you can admire the unique view from the terrace belvedere and eat in its countless restaurants, where you can enjoy the famous homemade ice cream: the Truffle of Pizzo.
